Ch-Ch-Ch Changes (Turn and Face the Strain)

Last night I encountered a complete flop for dinner. I attempted to make Alycia from Fit n’ Fresh’s veggie burgers but they just turned out disastrous! I did a few screwy things so I  am not blaming Alycia…this was all my doing; believe me. I tried making substitutions for main ingredients and adding spices where they did not belong and on top of everything else my blender is NOT, I repeat, NOT a food processor and has no business being substituted as such. So, we ended up throwing out most of our meal and going for ice cream. That’s the perfect alternative right?

This was probably close to how we looked, devouring our ice cream!

On another note, I finally had my phone consult with Matt from Health Blog Helper. He was such a huge “health blog” help and gave me a lot of insight on how I can improve my sight! Wait, you have not been there yet? GO THERE NOW! He’s fantastic for those looking for blog help! Anyway, thanks to his advice, I will  be making some changes to my site throughout the summer…in hopes to launch a “business” by the end of the year!!

Today, my mission was to conquer Twitter. Yes, I have an account but no, I never fully understood all the tweet, retweet, tweetchat, stuff. And, with my tweetchat coming up Monday the 28th at 6pm PST (9 pm EST)…I needed to learn! So that consumed some of my morning and then this afternoon I made some changes to my pages. Check out my NEW! About, Effective Weight-Loss, Health Tips, and Recipe pages along the top of my site! Let me know what you think!!

Thanks for all the useful suggestions about San Francisco!! Seems to be a fun and popular place! We cannot wait to visit! Also, thought I would share some fun response about brussel sprouts! Seems we have mixed reviews!

Fun Loving Polar Bear: I had a very passionate HATE-relationship with brussels sprouts BEFORE I made them at home, when roasted and spiced properly they’re very good

Simple Shaka: Brussel Sprouts-hate. I tried them once and made them at home. I thought they tasted like dirty socks.

Girl With The Red Hair: I am a HUGE fan of brussel sprouts! They are one of my favourite veggies!

Baking Serendipity: Yuck to the brussel sprouts…but definite yum to the carrot cake pancakes. Even trade-off…right?!

Dining and Dishing: My mum LOVES brussel sprouts! I keep trying to but I’m just not the biggest fan. When I was younger I used to chop them in tiny bites and swallow them with water before they hit my tongue.

Thanks everyone!! Have a wonderful evening!

  • You are going to love San Fran! Not that you probably need any more recommendations but I highly suggest checking Millennium (vegetarian food) and Betelnut (Asian-Indian fusion). Both are delicious but you can’t really go wrong in SF! Food there is fantastic.

  • At least you had an excuse, you were using a blender… I tried to use a real food processor the other day and managed to mess that up?! Oh well, learning is fun :) And ice cream makes everything better!

  • Sorry your burgers didn’t turn out! I had a major flop the other day myself and I could only blame me! Sometimes I get carried away substituting!

  • I’m just catching up on your blog–How exciting that you’re planning a trip to San Francisco! That’s where I’m originally from! Definitely visit Ghiradelli Square and sample the chocolate! It’s a bit touristy, but worth navigating through the crowds. There is also an amazing ice cream shop called Humphry Slocombe…they have the most incredible flavors! (I once had peanut butter curry!). And make sure to try fresh seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf! Oh…and sourdough bread! I could go on and on… :-)

I’ve made major substitution mistakes with recipes too! Ice cream is ALWAYS a great substitute for a real dinner!

  • I love the way you think girl – going out for ice cream when dinner fails! ;) You are definitely my kinda girl!!

  • That photo is too funny! And I love roasted brussels with salt :)

  • I love my brussels. substitute green balls for those ice cream scoops and that would be a picture of me eating brussel sprouts haha

I’m so jealous of your trip you’re planning to San Francisco! My husband are kind of in the same place right now (except we do have a mortgage payment) and are enjoying the time we have before having kids. Though our doggie is very much our child. We’re taking a vacation to Moab, UT in August!

I laughed out loud when you said that your blender does not replace a food processor. I try to do the same with mine all the time! I haven’t run into any problems substituting the blender, but I can see that veggie burgers in there might cause a disaster.

  • Sorry your veggie burgers were a fail – I’ve only made them once and they were only so-so! They’re a hard recipe to pull-off!

  • ice cream is THE PERFECT substitute for everything! :)

  • oh no, poor burgers! You know it was so hot, I was almost considering going for frozen yogurt for dinner lol :) I’m not the biggest fan of brussel sprouts, only because they do not sit well with my tummy. Thanks for the follow on Twitter!

  • sorry your burgers turned out disastrous!! checking out that site now!

  • I like the 2 ice cream in the pocket… lol

  • Ice cream is a perfect substitute for veggie burgers! :)

  • Oh, it seems I’m in the minority with the sprouts :D

Ice cream for dinner is ALWAYS a good idea ;)

  • Thanks for the blog love from a fellow RD! I love meeting other RD bloggers. Thanks for posting about Matt and the nutrition blog help…I probably need some of that. For what it’s worth, I absolutely love your blog and you’re a wonderful writer :) I’ve been poking around for a bit :) I look forward to reading more! And P.S. I JUST got a food processor, and you’re totally right. A blender can’t sub for a food processor!!

  • Dessert for dinner? Always good. Even better is dessert for breakfast.

I’m not a Twitter person either but sometimes I think about joining.. then again, I’m not sure I need to be addicted to another site!

  • Kaz

Ice cream always wins over dinner. I’d call it a victory either way. :D

The blog changes look great! I can’t wait to try out some of your recipes. I like how you arranged them all neatly and organized like that. =)

  • Haha aww I’m sorry about that! I’ll make some veggie burgers and send them your way soon (:

It took me a while to join in on the twitter wagon – I just really don’t know why anyone would want to know what I’m doing every five seconds? However, it turns out that the more you use it, the more you check it every FIVE SECONDS!
