I'm Lovin' It!

I’ve decided to start an “I’m Lovin’ It” series. Each week I will discuss 2-4 new finds that I’m LOVIN’!! I hope to inspire YOU to try something new!!So here goes nothing…

1. Jack LaLanne Power Juicer. I’ve always said I would prefer to eat my calories, however, it seems I’ve been converted. I am officially a juicer. I bought the Jack LaLanne power juicer about a month ago and my husband and I love the medley of flavors we can create with such a wide variety of fruits and veggies. Who would have known that beets blend so well with fruits or that celery makes such a refreshing addition to just about any juice blend? We’ve currently been blending some of the pulp back in to our concoctions for added fiber but there are plenty of other ways to use it: bake it in to breads or muffins, add it to marinara sauces, or mix it in to casseroles! We’ve honestly become juicing fiends!! It’s such a nutritious way to start the day! I’m lovin’ it!!

Carrot, celery, pear, and apple = delicious!

2. NuNaturals.  Last week I received a huge package of goodies from the company NuNaturals. They sell products made with the Stevia glycoside, Rebaudioside-A, an FDA approved component of the Stevia plant. Stevia is an all-natural herbal product that can be substituted in place of refined sugar and artificial sweeteners in food, beverages, and baking, with virtually ZERO calories. It also has a negligible effect on blood glucose, making it an ideal sweetener for those with diabetes.

Stevia has been used safely for centuries by native Indians in Paraguay and the Japanese have been cultivating Stevia since the 1970s! The sweetener now makes up 40% of the Japanese sweetener market and after more than 40 years of use, there have been no reported harmful effects.

I have recently used the NuNaturals Baking Blend in homemade protein bars, no bake cookies, and brownies, with extremely pleasing results. I was really impressed by how well it substituted, without any major changes in taste or texture. While Stevia has been known to have a slight licorice aftertaste, I did not find this with the NuNaturals products! I’m really excited about this brand of Stevia Product! I’m lovin’ it!

*I susbtituted half the refined sugar in my brownies with the NuNaturals Baking Blend and there was no difference in taste or texture.

3. Tangelos. A tangelo is a hybrid of a tangerine and a pomelo/grapefruit. They have a distinguishing knob-like stem and deep orange color. I found these the other day at The Fresh Market for only 98 cents a pound! I brought them home and found them to be incredibly refreshing!

Peeling is effort-less (a super plus), they have a slightly milder taste than a tangerine, and they are extremely juicy. Tangelos are also about 30-60 calories and an excellent source of vitamin C and flavonoids! A medium fruit provides ~6% of your daily calcium needs and 3 grams of fiber! I’m lovin’ it!

Your health is a direct reflection of how you choose to live.
