Today is my 27th birthday and after 20 1/2 hours of travel this past Friday (3 flights, 2 lay overs, 1 flight delay, and TWO 45 minute car rides), we finally made it to the gorgeous island of Hawaii! ALOHA!!! So excited to be in this beautiful land on my birthday!! Can’t you tell?
Upon rising, we were greeted around 8am with a bag of groceries! Although not my top choices, after a trip to the market ourselves, we soon found out this little grocery delivery was like gold! Food is insanely expensive here!! $7 for a box of cereal?

All my favorite cereals (total sarcasm), milk, OJ, oranges, apples, papaya, eggs, bacon, wheat bread, jam, butter, and bottled water.

We both woke up famished!! From our delivery we made egg sandwiches with 1/2 an orange and 1/2 a papaya!
I’ll be back with more updates later in the week but right now I wanted to get to the point of this post!!
This week, while I’m in beautiful Hawaii, I have some friends helping me out with a little series which showcases ONE healthy thing each person does for themselves every day. Today, I wanted to contribute to the series myself!
One thing I do for myself EVERY day is have at least TWO meat-LESS meals, if not THREE. I commited myself to being a part-time vegetarian back in college because meat was a costly item. Since graduating, I’ve realized that I don’t MISS eating meat every day and actually feel better the LESS meat I consume. Now, by no means will I ever say I’m a strict vegetarian, I honestly DO like meat; in fact, I ate bacon this morning! However, the health benefits of cutting back on our meat consumption cannot be over-looked and that is why I decided to come up with this challenge!
This month, I’m asking for YOU to eat a little less meat in May! You DO NOT have to eat completely meat-FREE for the whole month of May, but I AM challenging you to eat LESS meat! I know most of us are married to complete and total carnivores or feel this concept won’t be accepted by our families, but you might surprise yourself! Be creative with recipes and you just might get your family on board!! Think outside the box!!
Below, my dear friend Jen from Peas and Crayons, helped me design a super springy Meat-Less May challenge button that YOU can add to the side bar of your own blog! Can you help me spread the word?? I would love for you to share this button on your own blog and maybe get YOUR readers on board, sharing it on their blog! Let’s ALL help educate others about the health benefits of eating LESS meat!! Thanks friends!!!!!!!!!!!!

Add this button in to your blog's sidebar!! To get the code: go to my homepage, use the text beneath "Grab This Button," on the top left hand side, and put that code in to your own blog's sidebar under widgets or gadgets!!
Help spread the word about MEAT-LESS May by adding this button to your sidebar! Blog about it to get others on board!! Thanks friends!
ALOHA and MAHALO!!

I’m glad your empowered by taking responsibly for your health. You go girl.
[...] also went with Erin’s MeatLESS May. That was so much fun. This challenge wasn’t about going vegan — it was about eating [...]
[...] I have no problem with people’s food choices – vegan, vegetarian, hard-core carnivore…whatever. I don’t really care for eating labels anyways. However, I will say that I would have never known that eating less meat works well for me if I had not embraced experimenting with my eating choices. I completely support branching out to learn more about what makes your body feel best, which is why I also support Erin from The Healthy Apron’s initiative of Meat – Less May. [...]
Well, I already live a meatless life, but I think this is an awesome concept! I will spread the word.
The meatless may challenge is such a great idea! I am totally supporting this!:)
This is a GREAT idea! Totally adding this to my sidebar
I recently became vegetarian so obviously I will join in on this!
Happy birthday as well!!
[...] you notice on my side bar I’ve got a new widget called Meatless May! My gal Erin is trying to promote a meatless may over at her blog and I think its a FAB idea (seeing as I’m vegan!) so definitely check that [...]
Happy Birthday! And what a great idea for May.
I, too, am a “part-time” vegetarian, for many of the same reasons you describe. [But man, when I have it...I do love me some meat.
] I accept your challenge…although I fear it isn’t much of one since I’m already doing it!
I am already meatless but I would love to help you spread the word, a plant based diet is so amazing and I love that you are encouraging meat lovers to cut back a little, it makes such a difference
Happy birthday! Just snuck over here from Jenn’s bloggy…great challenge! I already eat very little meat, but I’ll definitely help spread the word!

Erin, happy birthday & glad to see you’re enjoying the Hawaii trip!
I love the eat-less-meat idea – a very approachable model for people who might balk at a fully meat-free diet. My own diet has swung the other way lately, but your post helped me plan to reverse that trend!
Happy Birthday, jealous of your trip. How do I add the cute button?
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Have a fabulous time in Hawaii

Happy 27th Birthday, Erin! I recently discovered your blog and just included you in today’s roundup! Love this idea and I’m def joining this challenge. I’ve done the Clean Detox twice and now I’m trying to eat vegan and gluten free at least 5 days a week.
