Do You Wish Away the Work Week?

I’ve always been the type of person to make time for myself. Even on my busiest days, I always knew I needed some kind of break. In college, I used exercise as my “break,” although that was more like something I felt I HAD to do (and in excess), so it wasn’t much FUN!

Play with some puppies!

Once I got my head on straight though (I stopped over-exercising), I knew I needed something more. Life can’t just be about going to class or work, exercising, and then going to bed!  Sure, I would go out on weekends and that gave me something to look forward to, but I hate wishing away Monday through Friday! Those are 5 SOLID days of our lives!!

Go apple picking in the fall!

In order to bust through my fun-LESS rut, I decided at LEAST 2 nights during the week I would plan something FUN to do; meet a friend for a walk in the park, grab dinner out, go rollerblading, meet friends for a drink, etc. Making this little change gave me something to look forward to and helped get me out of the work week rut.

Be creepy at the bookstore haha

After only a couple weeks of incorporating FUN things during the week, I noticed my energy levels improved and my enthusiasm throughout the work day got better!  I have since stopped wishing away the work week and all it took was a little time for FUN!

So this week, I challenge you to plan something FUN to do during the week! I don’t mean going home and squeezing in a work out (although that can be fun), however, most people look at exercise as another “to-do” and that is NOT what I mean!

Meet friends for drinks!

What I REALLY mean is get together with friends and go to the park to play frisbee, head over to the pool for some Marco Polo with the kids, join an intramural volleyball team, or just meet a friend for a drink! It’s summer! There are tons of things to get you out there and having FUN!

 NOW GO HAVE SOME FUN!!

Pics from the photo booth at my friend’s wedding! Lots of fun!

QUESTION: What fun things do you do during the week?

  • [...] couple months ago I wrote a post about wishing away the work week. The moral of the post was to make time for FUN; no matter what day of the week it happens to be [...]

  • I know it’s exercise, but I’m obsessed with zumba and I love it! I do it 3 times a week in addition to yoga. I’ve made great friends at the gym and to me, I look forward to weekdays just as much as the weekends. :) But you are right…Mon-Fri are 5 solid days with room for fun!

  • I LOVE your dress is those photobooth pics!!! So my taste :-)

  • Making plans during the week definitely makes it a lot more fun! I’m dying over that photo of you and the puppy!

  • The puppy is adorable!

I just found myself doing this. I work 2pm-10ishpm (sometimes later) so it’s difficult for me to hang out with friends during the work week because everyone else works normal business hours. And I’m sitting here and wishing it was 10 already and I realized that I’m wishing away minutes of my life that I will never get back.

    So thanks for the reminder!

  • I really need to do this!! I try really hard not to wish away the work week but the daily grind often leaves me counting down until Friday!! I’m totally making a commitment to 2 fun activities next week! Thank you for helping me keep things in perspective!!

  • This is exactly what I need to do! I’m always waiting and wishing it was friday. Not what I want to be doing!

Hi Erin, LOVE this post. I am often guilty of wishing the work week away, but my husband and I are doing just as you said, having some fun during the week. We had a friend over for dinner last night, and tonight, we are going for a walk. If I could borrow that puppy for tomorrow, that would be great! :) Have a good (and fun filled) week.

  • Wow, this is a great idea! I never really thought of it this way before, but I definitely wish away a lot of my work week. I love the idea of creating some fun during the week. Great post! :)

I think its a great idea! My 19 year old daughter is so busy with work and babysitting this summer, we set aside Wednesday night as “Hanging with Hannah!” Although, she’s on vacation in Virginia this week, so I’ll have to see if the hubs will substitute – although we usually go to the pool at the gym and throw those weighted rings and laugh our asses off – not sure he’d be into that!

  • Such good advice! I wish away the work week way too much during the school year, and think my goal for next year needs to be to plan an extra activity each week. I love to Skype with family and friends farther away, go out for frozen yogurt with my husband or take a night to cook an intricate meal and have a date night in :)

  • I like having at least one day that isn’t routine. Whether it be a movie, walking with my roomie (a new habit we do at least once or twice a week), or happy hour… doesn’t matter. Because yeah- what’s the point of wishing away that much of our time?

  • This is part of my OGM (Operation Good Mood). I’m trying to go out for Date Night with the hubby once during the work week and also meet up with friends once during the work week — either for lunch (which I never take) or dinner! It makes a HUGE difference!

  • Love the wedding photo booth pictures!! I never make time for anything fun during the week but you are so right, it helps break up the routine!

Awesome post!!! :D I get together with friends here, or skype with american friends!

  • I definitely squeeze in some fun on the weekdays- life is too short not to :)
