A couple months ago I wrote a post about wishing away the work week. The moral of the post was to make time for FUN; no matter what day of the week it happens to be (weekends aren’t the only time to do something you fancy)!
Today, I wanted to further reiterate the importance of bringing more joy into your life (no matter what day of the week), by embracing a hobby.
Think back to when you were a kid. What kinds of things did you enjoy? Dance class? Intramural sports? Collecting stickers? Book club? Hobbies are one of the best ways to relax, get creative, and just unwind from the stresses of life. They are also an excellent way to get in touch with yourself– to do something for YOU!
Whether you’re a busy parent or a stressed out student, it’s easy to spend less time doing the fun things we enjoy as we get older; there always seems to be something else that needs to be done. But I’m telling you, embrace a hobby! You might feel you’re being childish or worry about what other people might say…but WHO CARES! If you enjoy it, then it will bring happiness to your life. Happy people attract other happy people, so you might even make a friend out of it!
I hope that everyone tries to find the time (even if it is just for an hour or two) each week to put toward a new hobby. Grab a friend, significant other, your kids, or just yourself and have fun doing something you love.
Oh; and it doesn’t matter what that hobby might be; a hobby just has to be pleasurable and allow you to chill out and embrace your creative side!
QUESTION: What is your latest hobby?

This is truly great advice. I thought when my kids were grown and gone I would have all kinds of time for hobbies, but seems like work of some kind always fills the gap. Your post is a great reminder that there will never be enough time, and I just need to make room for something fun!
Gosh darn it, you’re right! I need to find a hobby! Something that doesn’t feel like it’s a ‘job’ or part of being a wife. I need to do things that are just for me…. hmmm. I’ll be thinking on this one!
My hobbies are hockey and blogging. I spend a lot of time doing both and I feel like they both help me “stay on track” with a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
This really is great advice! I’ve been trying to do more reading because I really enjoy it. Obviously, I also love to bake:-)
Does sleeping count? LOL Because I have been chosing zzzz’s over working out – my usual hobby – as of late.
I love little side hobbies
i went through a huge scrapbooking phase. I think my latest is marshmallow making. For real. Weird. But I’m liking the results
Katie- as long as you love cleaning…that could definitely be a hobby! I’m sure it’s hard to find YOU time with little Gracie…but even a bubble bath a couple nights a week and a magazine would count!
Shanna-all of those activities sound like you are taking time for you! They definitely count!
So is cleaning considered a hobby? Because that is all I basically do from the time the baby goes to bed until I go to bed. But I like a clean house so I’m not complaining.
I never feel like my hobbies actually count because they aren’t very directed or dedicated. The things I enjoy are reading (a lot), working out, shopping, and pedicures. Any of those count?
great advice!! mine would be anything active or anything involving my oven
My most recent hobby I’ve taken up in walking the neighborhood. I’m still trying to get a feel for my new home- it’s just so big! So the roomie and I go in search of new streets of bars/restaurants to check out for future reference…
