I'm Lovin' It!

Since it’s been awhile since I’ve done an “I’m Lovin’ It” post, I thought I would start this Thursday with a few things that I’m LOVIN’ this week!

1. Mamma Chia.

While I was at Whole Foods yesterday I happened upon a beverage called Mamma Chia. Since it looked a little different (and I needed something to blog about), I decided to check it out! I tried the Blackberry Hibiscus and with just a subtle fruity flavor and an interesting texture, this little bottle definitely quenched my thirst. With only 110 calories, 10 g of fiber, 33 mg of calcium, and a whopping 2000 mg of Omega-3′s in the entire bottle, I was pretty impressed! This is an excellent grab and go beverage if you are looking to satisfy your thirst and get an extra boost of nutrition. The only con? $3.69 per bottle. Yeeps!  I’m still LOVIN’ it though!

2. WHOLE FOODS.

source

With our recent move, I FINALLY live near a Whole Foods. I really don’t think I need an explanation here. The healthy options are endless!! Can I just say…I’m LOVIN’ IT!??

3. Garlic.

I love garlic. The more garlic the better, in my opinion. I love garlic in salad dressings, with my veggies, mixed with sauces, and roasted in the oven. I just can’t seem to get enough! The best part? It’s one of the healthiest additions to any diet! In a study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers show that eating garlic appears to boost our natural supply of hydrogen sulfide. Hydrogen sulfide is actually poisonous at high concentrations but the body makes its own supply of the stuff, which acts as an antioxidant and transmits cellular signals that relax blood vessels and increases blood flow.

“The power to boost hydrogen sulfide production may help explain why a garlic-rich diet appears to protect against various cancers, including breast, prostate and colon cancer, say the study authors. Higher hydrogen sulfide might also protect the heart, according to other experts. Although garlic has not consistently been shown to lower cholesterol levels, researchers at Albert Einstein College of Medicine earlier this year found that injecting hydrogen sulfide into mice almost completely prevented the damage to the heart muscle caused by a heart attack,” according to a 2007 article in the NY Times.

Whether there are definitive health benefits or not, try using a little garlic every time you cook! Just keep in mind that garlic is MOST effective when eaten raw, crushed, and/or chopped (to help release the active compounds). MmmmmMmm! I’m LOVIN’ it!

4. What Alice Forgot.

source

I suggest you cozy up this fall with a good book. May I suggest What Alice Forgot? It’s an easy, fun read that will leave you guessing right up until the end.  Without giving away the good stuff, let’s just say that after Alice hits her head in a spin accident she loses memory of the past ten years of her life. It was a page turner. I won’t say anymore than that but I’m LOVIN’ it!
