Good Greens. Is It Healthy?

One thing I like to do while I’m out grocery shopping is find a new product I’ve never tried before, sample it, and review it on the blog. This week I found Good Greens bars.

The first thing I liked was the packaging...they just look like something that would be healthy. This is a common deception among MANY nutrition bars though, so it needed further investigation!!

To read the finer print: 100% of your daily fruits and veggies, vegan, gluten-free, omega 3′s, 12 g protein, 3 probiotics, 40 antioxidants, no trans fats, no dairy, no refined sugars/additives/preservatives, and low glycemic index.

Just from reading that…wouldn’t you be sold!? 100% of your daily fruits and veggies!!!??? Hmmm seems to good to be true!

Before we jump the gun, let’s check out the ingredients:

Good Greens Z-52 Superfood Powder [Proprietary Blend of WholeFood: Spurlina*, Barley Grass*, Chorella, Wheat Grass Juice*, Wheat Sprout* , Nori (Seaweed), Acai Berry, Green Tea Extract, White Tea, Spinach* Dulse, Carrots* Broccoli Sprout*, Parsley*, Alfallfa Sprout Powder*, Raspberry, Pomegrante*, Blueberry*  Mulberry*, Goldenberries, Apple* Gogi Berry, Concord Grape, Grape Seed Extract, Pine Bark Extract, Mangosteen, Hydrilla Verticillata, Strawberry Leaves, Ground Flax (Non-GMO), Bilberry, Rice Bran, Beet Juice Powder, Soy Lecithin (Non-GMO), Acerola Berry, Rose Hips, Aloe Vera Juice, Milk Thistle, Ginger, Camu Powder*, Lucuma Powder,* Maca Powder*, Mesquite Powder*,  Probotics (Fructooligosaccharides, Lactobacillus, Streptococcus Salivarius, Bifidobacterium), Digestive Enzymes (Protease, Lipase, Amylase), Natural Resveratol, Omega-3 derived from “Plant Based” LifeDHA(R), Bioperine(R) (Natural Black Pepper), Hemp Powder, Chia Seeds], Dairy Free Dark Chocolate (Evaporated Cane Juice, Liquor, Soy Lecithin, Natural Vanilla), Fruitrim (R) (Fruit Juices, Natural Grain Dextrins), Sunflower Butter, Soy Protein Isolate (Non-GMO), Gluten-Free Oats*, Agave Syrup, Wild Blueberries, (with White Grape Juice & Canola Oil) Freeze Dried Raspberries, Inulin,  Soy Protein Crisps, Organic Natural Flavors, Brown Rice Syrup

It seems long because the ingredients for the Z-52 Superfood Powder were listed (that’s a good thing though!).  Overall, I thought it was a pretty decent looking ingredient list! I can read and understand every ingredient!

Below are the nutrition facts for the chocolate raspberry bar, which I sampled. It was quite yummy by the way; chocolate coating, chewy center…delish!

Although it might be high in sugar, the other stats look pretty darn good! I would replace a dessert with this bar…it’s that good!

While I’m not sure about a bar meeting 100% of your daily fruit and vegetable intake, I would give the thumbs up if you wanted to grab one on the go every now and then! The Good Greens bars would make an excellent snack; easy to port, quick and tasty to eat, and enough fiber to keep you satisfied for an hour or two! I say...IT’S FAIRLY HEALTHY!

QUESTION: Have you heard or tried the Good Greens Bar? Would you?  What are your thoughts?
