I know one thing’s for sure; if I keep it in the house, I am going to eat it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a total treat Nazi, I don’t mind keeping a dessert or two around the kitchen. However, the holidays are a time when I particularly caution against keeping tempting treats in the house. Why? Because you KNOW there won’t only be tempting treats at home, they will also be at your in-laws, the office party, and every Christmas party you attend.
During the holidays I put my baking apron out of sight because I KNOW there will be plenty of goodies lurking elsewhere. I don’t bake UNLESS I know it’s going right out the door. I mean, who could resist NOT eating a piece of the Brown Eyed Baker’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Torte…until the dang thing is gone? Just don’t do it to yourself man!! Keep the cookies, cakes, brownies, etc. out of the house until AT LEAST after the New Year. Face the temptation elsewhere by eating a sample or two but DON’T also bring it home! As the saying goes...”out of sight, out of mind,” (well….sort of).

QUESTION: Do you keep tempting treats in the house during the holidays?

I agree!!! Yesterday my client gave me an entire pumpkin bread.cake…fresh out of her oven, they are unbelievable but she uses so much sugar (hence, why it’s so yummy!) It didn’t even last without me tasting some in the car. I got home, cut a small serving off and gave the entire thing to my MIL to share with her boss and husband because I know how much baking and taste testing I will be doing this week
i agree with this, 100%! i keep hardly anything in the house!

here’s an image of my refrigerator: http://nicoleandgwendolyn.com/2011/11/29/ex-bulimic-refrigerator-behind-the-scenes/.
you mustn’t laugh!
I bake a lot during the holidays…but all if it goes into gifts and other party offerings! We rarely have many sweets sitting around in our kitchen…unless you count my birthday cake
I try really hard to keep most treats out of the house; however, my husband is a sugar addict so that makesit a little hard!
I am all about the out of site out of mine mentality! It is true though if I keep a treat in the house I know it is there and I am going to want to eat it! That picture though looks absolutely amazing!
Great tip! I’ll be baking a LOT of stuff, but giving most of it away!
This really is so true! I need to keep certain things on hand but eventually, if I find they are “torturing” me, I’ll get rid of them!
That first picture certainly matched the message! It looks dangerous indeed. Buying single slices suits me for things like that
