High-fructose corn syrup, an ingredient found in many sodas, may contribute to weight gain.
A study published in 1990 in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that those who drank soda sweetened with high fructose corn syrup daily for three weeks consumed significantly more calories and gained a significant amount of weight when compared to not drinking soda.(1)
